Masterclass: Examination-In-Chief (Tuesday 3 June 2025)

Are you confident in conducting an examination-in-chief? Are you familiar with the types of questions that are permissible?

Examination-in-chief is critical in effectively highlighting the strengths of your client’s case and is a necessary skill to possess to comply with the SRA’s Statement of Solicitor Competence and Statement of Standards for Solicitor Higher Court Advocates. In order to successfully conduct an examination-in-chief, it is necessary to know what evidence you need, how to structure your questions, and how to minimise the risks arising from cross-examination.

Join us for this interactive two-hour masterclass, led by advocacy expert and trainer Fiona Donnelly. This workshop will guide you through the intricacies of examination-in-chief, including detailed discussion of essential skills, practical drills and hands-on advocacy practice. Learning outcomes

By the end of this online masterclass, you will be able to:

 This workshop consists of the following elements:    

  • an SME presentation with opportunities for interaction, delivered using Microsoft Teams    
  • an interactive practice session with personalised feedback 
  • an optional MCQ assessment, to obtain a certificate of completion    

 Assessment   

In order to pass the assessment, you must achieve a mark of 80%.
