Essential Skills for Practice – Conducting Legal research (Tuesday 17 June 2025)

This free interactive online classroom and Q&A is aimed at newly qualified and aspiring solicitors looking to understand how to conduct comprehensive research by improving the understanding and implementation of legal research activities.

This session will provide an overview of legal research procedures and share practical guidance for finding and assessing cases, legislation, commentary and precedents, using a variety of sources.

  • Commentary – how to find reliable legal commentary from a variety of sources including books, journals and practice notes
  • Precedents – used to save time in legal drafting by using standard templates in encyclopaedias, databases and other resources
